NIIFT, in its contemporary essence, has emerged as a premier institute of North India possessing the ideology of commitment, creativity and professional integrity.

The garment industry of Punjab is an exquisite pot pourri of the flavours ranging from ethnic handicrafts parallel to hand embroidered Phulkaries, hand woven carpets and shawls, to the most modernised state-of-the art garment manufacturing plants with 100% mechanisation.

The knitwear Industry of Ludhiana which has emerged as the largest self sufficient sector in itself, has huge potential of maturing into an eminent industrial name at the international level.

But contrary to the expected accrue in exports, the garment exports have shown negative growth. This is mainly due to the sluggish world market, tough competition and lower unit value realisation combined with a fairly unorganised Indian Industry.

To boost exports it is necessary to equip the industry with modern machines and highly trained professionals, who have the right expertise to guide the industry into using high technology and better designing skills, keeping in mind the product quality, price and services, which have great bearing on importers.

The ten year old Institute is striving to impart knowledge comparable with international standards provided by a very competent and learned faculty. Also the constant interaction with the garment industry instills in the students, the confidence in their own ability to keep up with the competitive industrial world.

The Institute functions under the guidance of the Governing Council consisting of nationally eminent celebrities, industrialists and senior government officials. The council is whole heartedly and deeply involved in the growth and development of the institute and its directions help in developing a value system so as to build an informal organisational culture to sustain a high level of education.
